Intention to cease the Piek-Keur certification
friday, 02 May 2025
Since the establishment of Piek-Keur, the noise levels of vehicles, bodywork, components and internal transport equipment have significantly decreased. Quiet delivery windows have become widely accepted, the tightened Environmental and Planning Act has been implemented, and technological developments in the vehicle industry have resulted in many vehicles now meeting the original requirements of the certification as standard.
In addition, we have observed a strong decline in the demand for Piek-Keur stickers in recent years. This trend, combined with technological progress and the increased awareness among both transporters and retailers, leads us to conclude that Piek-Keur has achieved its goal.
Moreover, Piek-Keur has contributed to greater awareness and the adoption of social responsibility among various supply chain partners, including retailers, transporters, truck manufacturers, and manufacturers of bodies and components.
As part of a careful decision-making process, relevant parties, including retailers and transporters, were actively approached this year to share their views on the usefulness and future of the certification. The responses confirm our findings: there is broad recognition and appreciation for the role Piek-Keur has played, but it is also acknowledged that the added value of a specific certification is no longer sufficiently recognized by many market players. As such, there is understanding for the intention to discontinue the certification.
In consultation with the Committee of Experts, the board will develop a carefully considered phase-out plan, which will address matters such as communication, transitional arrangements, and possible archiving of documentation.
We thank you for your years of involvement and dedication to the Piek-Keur certification and trust you understand this proposed decision.
Sincerely,
On behalf of the board of the Piek-Keur foundation,
Cor van Bergen-Bravenboer
